On behalf of the Fonya family, the Lebialem and Cameroonian Communities in the United States, we appeal for financial contributions to give a final farewell and support to the family of our beloved husband, father, brother, friend & colleague, Dr. Peter Fonya Nzefe.
Dr. Peter Fonya Nzefe was born on May 27th, 1969. He attended Catholic Primary School Fonge (1976 – 1983) and was the third batch in Government Secondary School Fontem (now GBHS Fontem) from 1983 – 1988 where he obtained his O-Level GCE. He then made it to GHS Mbengwi in 1988 where he obtained his GCE A-Level in 1990.
Fonya was then awarded a scholarship to pursue his Bachelors’ Degree in Physics from a University in Germany. After graduating, he then moved to the United States for his Graduate degree and later obtained his PhD in 2007 from Howard University in Washington DC.
He has since worked at Howard University till the cold hands of death snatched him from us. He remained a very distinguished student at every stage of his academic career. He was a mentor to many peers and friends, and was known for his honesty and moral fortitude, and was a fierce advocate for community development.
Just a few months after he obtained his PhD in 2007, he was diagnosed with Cancer. He fought this disease bravely and remained very optimistic until he eventually gave up on March 20th, 2012 at the John Hopkins Hospital, Maryland.
He leaves behind his wife & three young children with ages ranging from 3-7 years. Fonya had no time to reap the fruits of the hard work and great education that he had pursued all his life with the hope that someday, his family will live a better life!!!! That dream will surely live with his young kids.
